On January 1, 2026, California’s new law AB-1263 went into effect. This law requires retailers to verify customer eligibility before shipping firearm accessories, grips, stocks, mainspring housings, and other regulated firearm components to California. In addition, SB-704 requires the sale or transfer of a firearm barrel that is not attached or affixed to a firearm to be completed in-person by a licensed firearms dealer.
Many online retailers have elected to stop all shipments to California residents. TAG will continue processing orders. However, this new law has resulted in significant changes to our policies. The brief overview:
-
- All regular FFL/SOT orders (e.g. firearms, lower receivers, suppressors) will still be shipped to an FFL.
- All standalone barrels, including complete uppers, must be shipped to an FFL. You will first need to contact your local FFL to verify whether they will accept these transfers.
- The vast majority of firearm accessories can be shipped to a customer’s home address, subject to verification.Â
If you check out with a California shipping address, you will be automatically prompted to review and complete the Notice and Acknowledgement form prior to submitting your order. You will also be required to upload a valid, government-issued ID.
- If the address on your ID does not match the shipping address on your order, the order will be cancelled and refunded.
Alternatively, it is important to note that a federally licensed firearms dealer, manufacturer, or importer (FFL) is exempt from these verification requirements.
- If you are unable to provide a valid ID with a matching shipping address, you may instead choose to have a firearm accessory shipped to your local FFL. If you choose this option, you must contact the FFL to ensure they accept accessory transfers and verify fees.
TAG will continue working to ensure compliance with these changes, while continuing to serve our customers. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this evolving situation.
